Under Age Essay example - 605 Words

Eighteen year old people should be allowed to drink alcohol. When our 18th birthday roles around we become of legal age. We sign for the draft and become eligible to fight for our country. Its possible now to be charged as an adult and spend life in prison and we can now purchase tobacco products and all other drug paraphernalia. I cant drink beer though, I must wait till my 21st birthday. nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; As a teenager who recently turned 18 and is now of legal age my point is valid. Underage drinking becomes more of a problem day by day and we cant seem to stop it. Liquor stores check Id’s and underage kids still seem to be able to get their hands on liquor and beer. If a fake I.D does not work then an older sibling, friend†¦show more content†¦As much as we would like to stop this problem, we can’t. The only way to stop this problem is by lowering the drinking age. Many fear that the problem will heighten and become uncontrollable. However, I disagree in a sense where kids will become more responsible and not have to hide their habits and break the law to enjoy a fun-filled night. nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; The age of 18 just seems more reasonable. As we turn 18 we become legal adults who have access to all that is out there, except alcohol. Are the effects worse after drinking liquor when your underage rather than 21? Absolutely not. Regardless of your age alcohol will still get you drunk, therefore, a legal adult should be able to consume alcohol. Yes, kids tend to drink to get drunk and not casually drink but if you think about it economically liquor stores will benefit greatly. nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Is underage drinking truly that bad? Would the government rather see us with a beer in my hand or a joint? As legal adults we can enter bars, clubs, and other areas where liquor is served but unfortunately cannot join the atmosphere in its drinking stage. There is no reason for this. No, I’m not an alcoholic or either is half the kids that like to get drunk at college parties or even on weekend nights. Yes, we are young, but we are considered legal adults as well. nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;Adults by nature can drink liquor freely. Eighteen year olds should be allowed to consume liquor. Service Quality Analysis of Dining Restaurant-Samples for Students

Question: Discuss about the service quality analysis of a fine dining restaurant. Answer: Introduction There are two types of business environment in which an organisation operates in, internal and external. Internal business environment are under the control of an organisation by the external business environments are not. Therefore as the company is devising its policies and strategies of management it should always keep in mind the changing dynamics of the external business environment. Service strategies of management include ways and means to improve the current service, incorporate relevant changes in order to keep an edge over the competitors, attention to customer service and customer requirement are some of the reason for organisations to keep the strategies evolving. This report will focus on the service management strategies adopted by the hospitality industry. The manufacturing and services sectors are similar yet different in many aspects, firstly customization and standardization is the most important difference. As the service industry is customizable the expectations o f the consumers are different from that of service sector organisation for example a beauty parlor or a restaurant (Goldstein, Johnston, Duffy Rao, 2002). In this report the management strategies of restaurants will be studied in order to evaluate the key service quality dimensions, analyze the present service management strategies and lastly provide some recommendations of changes in the future. About the company Al Dente is a chain of restaurants that has one flagship at the central business district where as four other in suburban locations. The restaurant offers the consumers with a range of food and beverage option that is sumptuous and mouth watering. The flagship restaurant has 60 seating arrangements and the restaurant is open for lunch and dinner. The restaurant features an open kitchen with a bar counter. It is a fine dining restaurant and the organisation has to keep up with the changing demands and requirements of the customers in order to keep up with the intense competition. As a fine dining restaurant the organisation has to pay attention to every detail and requirement of the customer apart from proving good food and good time. The organisation attracts a lot of tourist customers owing to the prime location of the restaurant. Corporate and working people are also common during the weekdays and in the weekends the restaurant expects families and couples. The organisation is prou d of their customer service and innovative rotational menu. The objectives of the restaurant are: To satisfy the customers with a unique fine dining experience To have a regular rate of table turnover Evaluation of the key service quality dimensions at the flagship restaurant Service quality in the service sector is the level of importance and focus the organisation devotes towards the needs and requirements of the consumers and the target market. It is also based on how the service is delivered to the customer. The quality parameter of the customers varies depending on the kind of service that the organisation has to offer. Service qualities can be broadly segmented in two divisions: technical quality, which is what the customers receive form the service that is offered by the organisation; and functional quality, it is the process by which the service is delivered to the end customers. Service providers are in constant quest of finding the evolved demand of the customers so that the quality of the service can improve (Goldstein, Johnston, Duffy Rao, 2002). The service gap model explains the difference in the expectation of the customers and the experience that they have. It is used to identify and measure the gaps in between customer expectation and experience SERVQUAL is a service quality framework that has been developed to measure the scale of quality in the service sector. There are five dimensions in this theory: responsiveness, assurance, tangibles, empathy and reliability. Al Dente is a popular chain of restaurants among the locals; the company has been serving fine dining to the customers at the flagship restaurants. Here is an analysis of the dimensions aforementioned based on the customer feedback that has been collected (Parasuraman, Zeithaml Berry, 1988). Responsiveness: In a fine dining restaurant the expectation of a customer is high, in terms of every aspect be it ambience, food, delivery service, behavior etc. There has been a clear issue of lack of communication among the team as the people have complained against the responsiveness of the staff even the gap in communication among the managers. This is a problem for a restaurant where the price that is being charged is high; people expect impeccable service and food. People have appreciated the staff but majority has acknowledged that the staff service could have been better. It is not as expected from a fine dining restaurant (Kang James, 2004). Assurance: behavior of the staff is also questionable; incidents have been identified where the people are not even well versed with the language spoken by the customer. There has been a clientele complaint against the mangers for not having any documents regarding the payments. Even after reservation people complain that they have to wait for an hour to get the table which completely dismisses the point of reserving. Therefore it can be said that this dimension of the quality is also absent from the services provided by the restaurant. Tangibles: The ambience, interior decoration as well as the food is average, the price of the food items and the quantity has been criticized by many customers. On the other hand, the quality of the food and the ambience has been appreciated by many. This dimension of the service quality is present in the restaurant service but the quality can be said to be is average than been good (Jun Palacios, 2016). Empathy: None of the customers have commented about the customer care service, but as motioned above the staff and the managers who are in direct contact with the customers have been criticized for their behavior and their service. It can be concluded that this aspect of quality is also absent from the services offered by the restaurant. Reliability: People have to wait in the queue for an hour even after reservation, on the other hand there has been positive response as well where the staff members have been said to be helpful. But majority of the people have complains against the staff and managers therefore it cannot be said to be even reliable. The only quality dimension that is presence on an average scale is tangibles, therefore the service quality of the restaurant can be deemed to be below average and the people who are in direct contact with the customers have to improve their communication skills and other related aspects of service in a restaurant to improve the service quality (Adil, Al Ghaswyneh Albkour, 2013). Issues identified at the flagship restaurant The issues that will be discussed are from the perspective of both the consumers as well as the employees of the organization. This is because the issues and grievances faced by the employees of the organisation impact the operations of the business and in turn on the quality of the services. Customers issues: Communication gap among the management Bad and irresponsible behavior form the staffs Issue with the high price and less quantity of food Poor service form the front of the house staff members (Gremler Gwinner, 2008) Employees grievances: The different teams in the restaurant do not communicate among themselves There is an internal conflict among the managers as well as among the management and the team The staff are underpaid The employees are overburdened and loaded with work There is no evident line of communication There are no recruitment criteria for the front of the house jobs There is little or no scope of skill development and learning in the process There is also a communication gap in between the staff members and the management team (Hemmington, 2007) Analysis of the effectiveness of the existing service management strategies As the restaurant is open for both lunch and dinner there are two different managers to look after the shifts, this is a good idea as it may be difficult for one person to keep track of the entire day (Dillard, Browning, Sitkin Sutcliffe, 2000). The restaurant has the table reservation facility which is important for a fine dining restaurant, people who visit a fine dining restaurant do not go only for the food, it is the overall experience of the place that counts. There is a rotational menu which offers a range of fusion food which mainly revolves around Italian and Modern Australian cuisine. The location of the flagship restaurant is in the central business district which attracts a lot of target customers as well as tourist which keeps the place busy and the revenues following. The restaurant focuses on the quality of the food and customer care as their priority as the management. In the service industry the role of the customer care plays an important role (Klidas, Van Den Berg Wilderom, 2007). Recommendation The management of the restaurant should first resolve the internal issues among the teams. A restaurant is a business enterprise where teamwork and compatibility with other teams should be encouraged and motivated. As pointed out by one of the employees there is no co-ordination among the team. The issues should be highlighted to the higher management and should be sorted before it starts impacting the business operation, the higher management should also keep an eye on all the employees (Wilkins, Merrilees Herington, 2007). The management must have a set of requirement while hiring for any position. Another issue that has been highlighted is the lack of qualification requirement while hiring people which make it difficult for other also to co-ordinate. The structure and the hierarchy of the organisation is not clear to the employees hence they do not understand who to go while facing any kind of problem in the work place. The duties and the responsibilities of the people should be clearly stated so that there is no case of miscommunication with the customers. The management should focus on customer satisfaction by improving their quality of food, the present workers should be given scope to lean and improve their skills so that the quality of their performance is improved (Bailly Ln, 2013). The front and the back of the house employees should be provided with guidelines and rules regarding their behavior with the customers as well as among the co-workers to ensure that the work environment is healthy (Bowen, 2016). The management should also employee more people so that the existing workers are not stress and overburdened with work. The focus of the management should be on the overall quality improvement of the service as the restaurant only had one dimension of service quality that is also average. Conclusion It can be concluded form the above discussion that the restaurant requires an internal change of strategies, the company can device changes from the feedbacks received from the customers as well as from the employees. The internal conflict among the employees is recognized as one of the major issues which have given rise to other problems. The company can employee the stated recommendations to eliminate the barriers in the service quality. Reference list: Adil, M., Al Ghaswyneh, O. F. M., Albkour, A. M. (2013). Lady Gaga free essay sample

â€Å"Gaga Gaga in the room† can be heard on â€Å"Starstruck†, one of the many tracks off of Lady Gaga’s debut album â€Å"The Fame†. She has always made her presence known and was always an entertainer. As a little girl, she would sing along on her mini plastic tape recorder to Michael Jackson and Cyndi Lauper hits. At age 4, she learned how to play piano by ear. By age 13, she had written her first piano ballad. She was signed by her 20th birthday and have written songs for artists such as the Pussycat Dolls. So with her writing songs for other artists, it is no surprise that she wrote all the songs on â€Å"The Fame†. â€Å"The Fame† has a mixture of different genres. When Lady Gaga ,22, was asked to describe her album she said â€Å" I marry a lot of different genres. It’s a bit retro, a bit glamorous, and you can dance to it. We will write a custom essay sample on Lady Gaga or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page It’s very futuristic, very fresh, and very dramatic, sort of like theatrical pop†. Working mainly with producers Redone and Martin Kierszenbaum, â€Å"The Fame† is a well constructed dance album that is sure to get any party started. Just look at the lead single, â€Å"Just Dance†, produced by Akon and Redone and featuring Akon and Colby O’ Donis. It has lyrics that are easy to get stuck in your head and a beat that you can’t help but â€Å"Just Dance† to. Other up tempo tracks on the album leave the same effect. â€Å"Money Honey† shows her love of money and â€Å"Boys, Boys, Boys† shows her love of boys! She is very risque on â€Å" Love Game† and title track â€Å"The Fame† really shines. The song â€Å" The Fame† was also used as the theme song on the Australian version of â€Å"Make me a Supermodel†. â€Å"Paper Gangsta† and â€Å"Starstuck† gives the album it’s hip hop edge. â€Å"Starstruck† features Space Cowboy and â€Å"Elevator† rapper Flo Rida. Singles â€Å"Poker Face† and â€Å"Beautiful, Dirty, Rich† features sharp beats and very interesting lyrics. The mid tempo songs are â€Å"I Like it Rough† and â€Å"Paparazzi†. â€Å"Paparazzi† has lyrics like â€Å" follow you until you love me† and â€Å"I won’t stop until that boy is mine†. â€Å"Paparazzi† shows persistence aka stalker. The two slow songs â€Å"Eh, Eh (Nothing else to say) and â€Å"Brown Eyes† honestly should have been left off of the album and have been bonus tracks. All and all, â€Å"The Fame† is a solid album, The mid and up tempo tracks are hits and sadly the slow songs are a miss. The album is perfect for clubs and a good workout. Lady Gaga can be compared to the likes of Fergie, Gwen Stefani and Katy Perry. By this album it is totally understandable why everyone is going Gaga over Lady Gaga! Lady GaGa free essay sample Last year, I was watching the show So You Think You Can Dance when Kat Dennings introduced a performer known as Lady GaGa. At this point, I was laughing because it sounded ridiculous. But as soon as she got into the performance, the whole ambiance was sensational. From her wacky, retro wardrobe and hair do, to her dancing, she was very unique. Her voice was like a mixture of Gwen Stefani and Amy Winehouse to me. As soon as I was done listening to her sing Just Dance on that show live, I immediately ran to the computer and found the song on iTunes. A few months later, after the song was old news to me, radio stations began to play it. When I had heard it hundreds of times, people were just dipping their toes into the pool of GaGa I had been doing laps in for weeks. This Easter, I was given her CD The Fame which didnt fail to disappoint. We will write a custom essay sample on Lady GaGa or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Songs like Paparazzi, Beautiful Dirty Rich, The Fame, and Starstruck show the general obsession of the public to have their names on the screens of every television around the world. She slows it down with different songs like Brown Eyes and Eh Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say) which shows off her very different voice. The songs Paper Gangsta and Summerboy are very different and I love them! So overall, Lady GaGa, nine out of ten stars. Nine because some lyris are unneccesarily inappropriate, in songs, like LoveGame and Money Honey. But its still an album that all songs will be in your head!

Critical analysis of Yemen's current Military Capabilities - Research Paper Example The armed forces personnel’s in the military of Yemen in somewhat very large. In the Arab countries the second largest army force is of Yemen next to Saudia. The military of Yemen is comprised of a military fleet, heavy naval equipments and a strong and well equipped air strength. In the year 2007 the total military capabilities were expected to be: territorial armed forces, 65,000; fleet, 7000-8000; and the air power, 4,000. Economically Yemen is one of the least developed nations amongst the United Arab countries. The employment rate is just 65%1. Even being below poverty line the Yemen’s government invests the largest portion of its GDP in the development of its armed forces. The security costs are really high as they account for the good amount of Yemen’s GDP i.e. 40 to 50 percent. In the year 2002, Yemen spent US$731 million on its military, and this amount has been increasing every year. For instance, the country the military expenditures of 700 million US Dollar were in year 2002 and they have increased to to almost 900 million dollars in the year 2004 2.Yemen entails a total of 11,700 troops divided among the army, air force and the navy; it also consists of total 40,000 reserves3. Machiavelli's view of human nature in The Prince Essay

Machiavelli's view of human nature in The Prince - Essay Example Machiavelli's view of human nature in The Prince In chapter 15, Machiavelli writes, â€Å"men†¦and princes†¦, are remarkable for some of those qualities which bring them either blame of praise† (Machiavelli, 1961). The princes show those characters that will not deprive him of his state. In this case, men follow what brings them benefit even if it is a vice – â€Å"it will be found that something which looks like a virtue, if followed, would be his ruin; whilst something else, which looks like a vice, yet followed brings him security and prosperity.† Being in the highest position of the land, and with the highest authority, the prince should put in effect policies that will serve his best interest (Machiavelli, 1961). This shows that Machiavelli supported any action of princes that will give them satisfaction, even if it will hurt the citizens. He believed that the prince’s followers are sometimes unreliable, and the prince might lose their loyalty. This is indicated in chapter 11: â€Å"For such a prince cannot rely upon what he observes in quiet times, when citizens have need of the state, because then everyone agrees with him; they all promise, and when death is far distant they all wish to die for him; but in troubled times, when the state has need of its citizens, then he finds but few† (Machiavelli, 1961). The prince should therefore ensure that at every moment citizens are in need of the state, and they will always be faithful to him.

Emotional Quotient And Spiritual Intelligence In The Workplace Essay Example for Free

Emotional Quotient And Spiritual Intelligence In The Workplace Essay As the world progresses and advances towards globalization, the global economy is demanding for the existence of well-managed companies and organizations. Responding to this demand, organizations are trying to find more effective formula that will enhance or improve their outputs. Two of the latest discoveries that attract companies and organizations are the concepts of emotional and spiritual development of their human resources. More and more companies are integrating the said formula in their programs and action plans as they recognize the need of these concepts that were long been neglected. In this paper, we will analyze the arguments of two chosen articles which focus on Emotional Intelligence (Must Have EQ by Anthony Landale) and Spiritual Intelligence (The Practical Application of Spiritual Intelligence in the Workplace by Mike George). Anthony Landale, in his article entitled â€Å"Must Have EQ†, argued that Emotional Intelligence or EQ (Emotional Quotient) the key for an organization to meet the challenge of getting people work together more effectively (Landale, Andrew Feb/March 2007, page 24). In line with this, the author presented his stand in four clear points. First, he argued that EQ is vital in keeping the organization or team members intact. Second, he argued that each team member must be able to learn how to manage our emotions by constantly checking our own individual behaviors. Landale made it clear that behaviors are innate in humans and that every person has his own set of good and bad behaviors. Relative to this, a person who has high emotional intelligence is able to manage even the undesirable behaviors by expressing them in the right place, time and manner. Third, Landale argued that EQ development requires empathy, which is putting oneself in the place of others. This means that one is required to constantly deal with others at work, learn to adjust as needed and be able to adapt with the situation. Lastly, the author stressed that communication is vital in the development of emotional intelligence and of keeping the organization healthy. To be able to do this, every member must maintain an open and honest communication. It was also stressed that a two-way communication line is required which means that feedback to and from management must be kept working. Emotional intelligence is therefore measured according to the person’s skill of managing his or her emotions and behaviors because EQ is actually â€Å"Self-Management. † In partnership with EQ, a company must also train its human resources to develop Spiritual Intelligence (SQ). The author centered his arguments on the practical applications of SQ especially in the workplace because SQ development focuses on the three deepest motivations of humans: creativity, meaning and purpose (George, Mike 2006, page 3). The author argued that since Spiritual Intelligence directly work with these three human motivations, SQ development will definitely make a company a vibrant workplace. If a person’s SQ is well-developed, he will be able to have a clear sense of his identity and a definite purpose. Spiritual intelligence enables a person to live with integrity by setting a good example. Because SQ gives the individual the power the flexibility to adapt to the environment, a person with high SQ is able to be cool and focused even in a stressful situation. By developing one’s self-awareness, a person with high SQ also will have the power to find the cause of his emotions, its meanings and be able to manage them. This in turn will develop one’s empathy. Spiritual intelligence focuses on the development on a person’s ability to fight the ego in order for him to adapt to changes. Finally, development of spiritual intelligence enables a person to recognize the non-material reality of his being that is humans have non-material needs which when recognized alleviates life’s insecurity. If cognitive intelligence is about thinking and emotional intelligence is about feeling, then spiritual intelligence is about being† (McMullen, Brian 2003). In line with the arguments of Landale and George, this statement is parallel with their point of view that EQ has something to do with self-management while SQ deals with self-awareness of the non-material reality of the being. In the modern world, people are inclined to boosting their cognitive intelligence (IQ) as this may seem the measuring device for one’s success in life. But the real working world does not acknowledge the importance of IQ alone, rather the development of all four basic intelligences that define the successful individual. â€Å"IQ appears to be related to minimum standards to enter a given a profession† (Wiggleswoth, Cindy ). In line with Landale’s claim that EQ is of managing emotions, a study of store managers in retail chain proved that efficient management of emotions especially with stress is important for success (Cherniss, Cary 2000). However Cherniss stressed that this is just one aspect of the complex scope of emotional intelligence. He said that â€Å"emotional intelligence has as much to do with knowing when and how to express emotion as it do with controlling it. † This statement corroborates Landale’s idea that EQ is of acknowledging and identifying the emotions and learning how to express them in a proper behavior (Landale, Andrew 2007, page 24). The importance of this aspect of EQ was proven worthwhile in modern organizations as with the experiment done in the US navy wherein researchers found that â€Å"the most effective leaders in the US Navy were warmer, more outgoing, emotionally expressive, dramatic, and sociable† (Barsade, S. t. al 1998). Another aspect of emotional intelligence is empathy which is proven by researchers that it contributes to occupational success (Cherniss, Cary 2000). This is the aspect that overlaps with the concept of spiritual development which also acknowledges the importance of empathy in recognizing the cause of the emotions and be able to utilize them in adapting to changes. â€Å"EQ is the development of the capacity for self-control and the ability to respond with sensitivity and empathy† (Oxford Leadership Academy). This is also important if a manager or someone in the organization would like to positively influence the work behaviors of other members. A practical application of this as cited in one article is that one’s effectiveness can influence others depending on one’s ability to connect with them particularly of understanding the feelings of others (Goleman, Daniel 1999). To effectively influence others we also need to be able to manage our own emotions. Connected to EQ development is the spiritual intelligence which centers on developing the skills of the person in managing the inner self or the non-material reality of one’s being as claimed by George. One author defined spiritual intelligence as â€Å"the ability to behave with Compassion and Wisdom while maintaining inner and outer peace (equanimity) regardless of the circumstances† (Wigglesworth, Cindy). Since compassion encompasses the ability to understand the feelings of others, as what empathy suggests, the concepts of EQ and SQ therefore work together towards the complete success of a person and the organization where he belongs. The practical point of this is that when someone is emotionally and spiritually intelligent, he will be able to make the most out of his skills, emotions, behaviors and traits in managing himself and in turn will give him the power to positively connect with others. That optimism is brought about by the fact that the person, with empathy and compassion, understands the emotions of others which give him the ability to stay calm and focused no matter what the situation brings. Relative to George’s argument that spiritual intelligence in necessary for a person to live a life with integrity and in line with the clear purpose, one author has the same perspective. According to 1Wigglesworth, spiritual intelligence development encompasses self and universal awareness including the ego and social mastery. In the management world, spiritually intelligent manager is a â€Å"wise and effective change agent† who makes compassionate and wise decisions. Wigglesworth further said that SQ enables managers to have the calming and healing presence in the midst of stressful workplace. In contrast with George who did not acknowledge the importance of communication in the development of SQ, Landale stressed that EQ development requires a manager to â€Å"prioritize the giving and receiving of feedbacks† (Landale, Anthony 2007). Connecting with other members of the organization builds and cultivates relationships and that can only be possible when open communication is active in the organization. Putting the essentials of emotional and spiritual intelligence, we clearly draw out the idea that the development of these basic intelligences focus on relationships which is especially important in building an effective, efficient working environment. The human resources of the organization are its most valuable assets so it is vital that that training and development should include the wholeness of their being. Companies of the modern economy is already recognizing the fact the business is not all about making money, rather it encompasses the building of organization members with multiple intelligence. An organization with personnel, especially leaders, who have well developed cognitive, emotional and spiritual intelligence, is a happy and enthusiastic working environment. Developing the emotional and spiritual intelligence is the answer to the intangible needs of the organization: healthy working relationships.
